Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

About PEIGHS

What is the Prince Edward Island Ghost Hunting Society (PEIGHS)?

PEIGHS is a group of paranormal investigators and historians dedicated to exploring, documenting, and analyzing reports of ghostly activity across Prince Edward Island. Since 2008, we have investigated historic sites, local businesses, and private residences to uncover the truth behind unexplained events.

Is PEIGHS a professional organization?

While we are passionate about our work and use scientific investigative methods, PEIGHS operates as an independent research group. We do not charge for investigations and conduct our work with professionalism and respect.

What kinds of locations does PEIGHS investigate?

We investigate a variety of locations, including historical sites, businesses, and private homes. Notable investigations include King’s Playhouse (2009), Dalton Hall at UPEI (2008), Hunter’s Ale House (2008), and the West Point Lighthouse (2023).

Paranormal Investigations

How does a paranormal investigation work?

Our team uses a combination of environmental monitoring, audio and video recording, and firsthand observations to document and analyze potential paranormal activity. Investigations typically include EMF readings, EVP sessions, infrared photography, and temperature monitoring.

What equipment do you use?

We utilize various tools to gather potential evidence, including:

  • EMF meters (to detect fluctuations in electromagnetic fields)

  • Digital audio recorders (to capture EVPs—Electronic Voice Phenomena)

  • Infrared cameras and motion sensors (to detect unexplained movement)

  • Environmental monitors (to record temperature shifts and atmospheric changes)

Do you always find evidence of ghosts?

No. While we have captured unexplained occurrences during some investigations, we approach every case with skepticism and an open mind. Not every investigation results in paranormal findings, and we prioritize logical explanations first.

Can I join an investigation?

Due to the sensitive nature of our work, we do not allow the general public to attend private investigations. However, we do occasionally host public events where guests can participate in a ghost hunt under our guidance.

Private Home Investigations

I think my house is haunted. Can you help?

Yes! If you are experiencing unexplained activity in your home, we can conduct an investigation to gather evidence and provide insight. We handle all private investigations confidentially and with respect.

Is there a fee for an investigation?

No. PEIGHS does not charge for investigations. We conduct our work out of passion for paranormal research and a commitment to helping others understand their experiences.

Will you get rid of ghosts if you find them?

We are not exorcists or spiritual cleansers, but we can provide recommendations on how to manage paranormal activity, including connecting you with specialists in energy clearing if needed.

Skepticism & Science

Do you believe in ghosts?

Our team includes both believers and skeptics. We approach each investigation with an open but critical mind, seeking evidence to support or debunk paranormal claims.

Can’t all ghost sightings be explained scientifically?

Many experiences can be attributed to environmental factors, psychology, or even electrical interference. However, some cases defy conventional explanation, which is why we continue our research.

Would PEIGHS check out a house I plan to purchase?

PEIGHS is happy to consider investigating locations where there are reported paranormal experiences, including private residences, provided the property owner grants permission. That said, it’s important to understand the nature and limitations of paranormal investigations. PEIGHS investigations are conducted for research, educational, and historical interest purposes only.

Any findings, observations, or experiences reported during an investigation are not definitive proof of paranormal activity, nor can they be guaranteed to identify or rule out the presence of such activity.

Paranormal phenomena are highly subjective and can be influenced by environmental factors, equipment limitations, and personal perception. As a result, PEIGHS investigations should not be used as a determining factor in real estate, financial, or legal decisions, including the purchase of a property. PEIGHS does not certify, declare, or label any property as “haunted” or “not haunted,” and accepts no liability for decisions made based on an investigation or its outcomes.

If you are interested in an investigation, we are happy to discuss the process, scope, and expectations in advance so everyone involved has a clear understanding of what an investigation can — and cannot — provide.
