North Carleton, Prince Edward Island
Last week, I discussed the history of this truly unique cemetery. Today, we will explore the folklore associated with this graveyard.
Let's discover the secrets it held!
Islanders have long been attracted to the serene beauty and solemn ambiance of Pioneer Cemetery. However, beneath its visible history lies a hidden layer of folklore that fascinates the imagination. Join us as we delve into the local legends, stories, and enduring mysteries that make this place far more than just a graveyard.

Folklore, Legends and Stories Oh My
We've come across a few intriguing stories on Facebook in the group Ghost Stories of PEI.
About seven years ago, a visitor exploring the cemetery discovered artificial black roses placed near the headstone.
One quiet night, a group of people decided to visit the graveyard to get a closer look, despite finding it eerie. Afterward, they decided to leave and head back to their car. As they were driving away, they noticed a large tree lying across the road. They were surprised because there had been no fallen tree when they initially went down the dirt road to the cemetery. They quickly got out, moved the tree, and left the area as fast as they could.
Only a single grave marker is left, although there used to be more headstones, indicating that more bodies are interred there. One person found it unsettling that the ground is oddly elevated in a circle where the grave markers once were.
Another visitor allegedly attempted to record a video on their phone, but it didn't function. Once they reached the main road, it worked perfectly.
Another enthusiast would visit and hear a humming sound emanating from the ground around the grave.
Our Investigation
Duration: 1 hour
Equipment used;
REM Pod
(2) EMF Readers
Audio Recorder
Video Camera
Tripod
Summary;
This was our first investigation at this beautiful historic cemetery. We used a variety of equipment, as mentioned above. Initially, we walked around the premises and took a few photos with our cell phones. It was a beautiful day. Then we concentrated on the lone grave, setting up some of our equipment on the gravestone. We asked our questions, ensuring we left some time between each one. After about 30 minutes, we decided to listen to our audio reader in the car (pesky mosquitoes). Unfortunately, there was a lot of background noise (construction, birds chirping, and cars passing by on the main highway). We did capture a very, very faint EVP, but we couldn't make it out. However, it gives us reason to return, perhaps closer to dark.
Conclusion:
In conclusion, we didn't discover anything during this investigation, but we plan to make another visit in the future. Initially, I believed this would only be a two-part post series. However, while researching the graveyard's history, I stumbled upon the legend of The Witches' Grave.
Is the Witches Grave located alone in the North Carleton Pioneer Cemetery??
We are about to find out!
